We are now accepting submissions for presentation at the 12th Autism-Europe International Congress. The Congress is being held on 13-15 September 2019 in Nice, France.
About the Congress
Autism-Europe’s international congresses are dedicated to sharing advances in the practical and scientific knowledge of autism to as wide an audience as possible, including autistic people researchers, professionals and parents.
The overall theme of the Congress is “A new dynamic for change and inclusion”
We intend to show all the new knowledge and experiences that will make it possible to progress towards an inclusive society for autistic persons.
Topics for submissions
We welcome submissions from researchers, practitioners, teachers, autistic individuals, and other interested parties.
We wish to explore a broad range of perspectives, both theoretical and practical, and will be accepting abstracts within the following key topic areas :

- Family and stakeholder experience or support
- Gender & sexuality
- Inclusion and Community living
- Language and communication
- Mental Health
- Neural basis of Autism
- Neurodevelopmental conditions (overlap and co-occurring conditions)

- Responding to high and complex support needs
- Rights and participation
- Strategic planning and coordination of services

Autism-Europe encourages individuals of all backgrounds to submit papers. Value will be placed on robust and well evidenced knowledge, including academic research and professional, personal and collective experience.
Rules for Abstract Submission
- On-line submission only
Authors who wish to present a paper (either oral or poster) at the AE 12th International Congress must submit an abstract online via the abstract submission page of the Congress website. Any abstracts sent by post, fax or e-mail will not be accepted. The registration may be done after abstract acceptance notification (a short delay will be provided after notification)
- All abstracts must be written in English
The text should lie within the indicated frame on the form, and it should be written in the box. The abstract should contain neither illustrations nor tables. No identifying features such as names of authors, hospitals, medical schools, clinics, services, associations, countries or cities may be listed in the title or text of the abstract.
The abstract title and text are limited to 2500 characters (including spaces). A “blind” selection process will be used. Authors’ data is needed for the congress registration and the accepted presentations that will be included in the Book of Abstract.
- Preference for oral presentation or poster shall be indicated
When preference for oral submission is indicated, the scientific committee will decide whether a submission is affected to a poster session or an oral session, depending on interest and quality. When preference for poster is indicated, the scientific committee will not decide an oral presentation even if the quality of the proposal would have deserved it.
- The body of the abstract should be ordered as follows:
INTRODUCTION (Guidanc : Why did you do this study or action? Which question did you try to answer or which purpose did you have in mind?)
METHODS (Guidance : When, where and how was it done? How did you proceed to evaluate the impact?)
RESULTS (Guidance : What did you find? What was the impact of your study or action? Were the results as you expected?)
DISCUSSION (Guidance : What might your study or action imply and why does it matter? How did it fit with similar action or study? What else could be done or need to be done?)
- Presenter /Substitute.
The person who submits the abstract is considered to be the presenter. A substitute presenter is to be named in case the presenter is unable to attend the congress.
- Abstract deadlines will be strictly observed.
Only abstracts received by the published deadline are guaranteed acceptance for evaluation. Abstracts submitted after the abstract deadline will be rejected.
Abstract modification: It will be possible to modify your abstract until the submission deadline.
- Abstracts will be printed exactly as they are submitted
It is the author's responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any error in spelling, grammar or scientific fact will be reproduced as typed by the author.
- Notification of abstract selection
Notification of abstract selection will be sent to the presenter by e-mail no later than 30 April 2019
Only the presenter may request the withdrawal of an accepted abstract until 31 July 2019. Requests for withdrawals must reach the Congress organisation in writing by e-mail. It is the responsibility of the author to check whether the Congress organisation has received his/her withdrawal message.
- Disclosure of potential conflict of interest:
This is a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT for all authors of all submissions. All authors, including all co-authors submitting abstracts are required to disclose their sources of contributed support (commercial, public, or private foundation grants). Authors are also required to signify whether there may be a real or perceived conflict of interest. Disclosures will be included in the Book of Abstracts and must also take place at the time of presentation (both orally and in writing).
- Time allotted for oral presentation
The time allotted for the presentation of oral communication is 15 (fifteen) minutes for presentation and 5 (five) minutes for questions. Please note that the time provided for discussion cannot be used for lengthening the time for the presentation.
- Poster session
Specific time-slots will be allocated to the presentation of posters, during which the present will have to remain close to his/her poster to present and answer questions. At least one of the poster's authors shall be present during the poster sections.
- Presentation slides
Presentation slides should be prepared and posters designed and displayed according to the instructions published on the Congress website
- Anonymity and Respect
Anonymity and respectful representation of any person portrayed in any presentation (oral or poster) is MANDATORY. Supply of the written consent of the person and/or his or her legally authorized representative should be the authors’ responsibility. The Scientific Programme Committee does not take any responsibility for it.
